Friday, July 10, 2009 - 9:00am -3:30pm, Structures in Action!
San Diego Supercomputer Center, UC San Diego

Join engineers from the Department of Structural Engineering and learn about basic concepts of structural design! Students will design a simple truss bridge, solve for the forces in the bridge mathematically, build a model of their structure and then test their bridge in a competition to see how closely they can predict when the bridge will fail. The seminar objectives are to encourage students to continue their education in science and engineering through understanding the importance and challenges of engineering, and how basic science and mathematics can be used to solve real-life problems. Presented by Dr. Lelli Van Den Einde, University of California, San Diego. Complete workshop information, registration fee and application forms can be found at http://education.sdsc.edu/teachertech (scroll down to the red star on the main TeacherTECH page). For questions or additional information, please contact Ange Mason at 858 534-5064 or amason@ucsd.edu.
