DEVELOPMENT TECHNICIAN 3 - 123127

Under supervision, the incumbent will assist a team of engineers supporting scientific research in the area of Structural Engineering. The incumbent will provide maintenance and general operation of equipment, including material handling devices and electronic instruments.

Use hand and power tools, measuring devices, heavy equipment and machining tools. Fabricate, assemble and maintain electrical and mechanical equipment in support of structural testing. General creative problem solving to achieve research-focused objectives.

DEVELOPMENT TECHNICIAN IV - 123452

Under general supervision the incumbent is responsible for all of the following as they apply to large and full-scale highly specialized technical functions in the Seismic Response Modifications Devices (SRMD) Test Facility including: design, construction, installation, fabrication of instrumentation fixtures and brackets, test setup and testing, disassembly, removal and demolition of isolation devices, dampers, reinforced concrete, masonry and steel test specimens; maintenance and general operation of equipment, including material handling devices and electronic instruments.

Act as the SRMD and Powell Lab Safety Coordinator, using knowledge and professional judgment to provide expertise to the Faculty, Staff, Students, and Visitors to the SRMD facility. This knowledge is in the areas of hazardous materials management, construction and personal protection, chemical storage, hazard communication, waste disposal, worker education, and planning for emergency management. Liaison with Federal, State, County agencies, such as OSHA and UCSD EH&S personnel regarding safety codes, regulations, compliance and facilitating inspections of the site.

The UC San Diego Structural Engineering Department is currently comprised of approximately 25 faculty, 5 researchers, 500 undergraduate students, 150 graduate students, and 33 staff members. The Structural Engineering Department offers BS, MS and PhD degrees with specializations in the areas of civil structures, geotechnical engineering, computational mechanics, aerospace structures, and structural health monitoring/nondestructive evaluation. The department is home to the world-class Charles Lee Powell Structural Engineering Laboratories, Caltrans Seismic Response Modification Device (SRMD), and the Englekirk Structural Engineering Center (ESEC). Through these facilities, our faculty and researchers have access to some of the most innovative and productive research infrastructure in the world.

Using skills as a seasoned, experienced Student Services professional, provides the full range of student services within an organization such as an academic department, school, or college. Independently advises students and resolves student services-related issues on the full range of academic issues inherent within the organization. Advises faculty and management on a variety of student issues. Under general direction, manages a complex, comprehensive Academic Advising program and administratively coordinates its services with other campus wide units. Responsible for the planning, management and coordination of the SE undergraduate program (approximately 700 students) and M.S. and Ph. D programs (approximately 170 students). As consultant to the Vice Chair(s), Chair, and faculty committees, perform high level analysis in the formulation, development, and implementation of policy and key procedures for the operation of the Student Affairs units in SE. Oversee the management of curriculum and programs, advising, admissions, outreach and recruitment, scheduling; registration, TAs and GSRs. Responsible and accountable for the fiscal management of graduate student funding support, policy development and implementation. Responsible for the overall administration and management of the Student Affairs units including staff supervision, training, workload distribution.
