Professor Francesco Lanza di Scalea was elected Fellow of the Society for Experimental Mechanics (SEM) with the citation “contributions to the fields of non-destructive evaluation and structural health monitoring, particularly ultrasonic testing, acoustic emissions testing, and infrared thermography for quantitative damage detection.” According to the Society’s bylaws, “designation as an SEM Fellow is reserved to a select group of individuals that have made notable contributions to the Society and to the field of Experimental Mechanics.” The Fellow Award will be presented to Prof. Lanza di Scalea at the SEM Annual Conference and Exposition on Experimental and Applied Mechanics in Greenville, South Carolina in June 2018.
