PhD student Manuel Vega Loo has won the ASEE SMART Fellowship, a highly-competitive Department of Defense-wide full scholarship for PhD research.  His home government institution will be the Army Corps of Engineers Research and Development Center (ERDC) in Vicksburg, Mississippi, where he will work upon successfully completing his PhD here at UCSD. 

Manuel is currently doing fundamental research in structural health monitoring strategies for locks, one of the Army Corps’ most important structural assets.
